01:47 pm - Pearl's Book I have written a book for Pearl, about where she came from. It is a long and complicated story and even the child-oriented version wound up being 32 pages long.
All the books say the best way to let children know is to tell them from when they are young. That way, there is no shock. Unsurprisingly I could not find any books that deal with our situation - They are either for couples who used an anonymous donor or for lesbian couples. So I wrote a book.
I shall upload it bit by bit as it is so long and image intensive. Under the cut are pages 1-10 and the cover. (So lots of pictures).

Oh wow.... this is just beautiful! I can't wait to see the rest!
Em, his is amazing. Um, how do you spell 'beginning'?
Whoops - thats what happens when you split the word up. Better redo that bit.
That looks beautiful, Emma!

Wow! What a great idea!
I had a lot of trouble getting it down to something manageable. It's incredibly simplified and it's still at a level that is too sophisticated for her.

Serious bit: this looks brilliant.
Not-so-serious bit: I love that from this stage on the story could go in any direction. Romance: "...but then she met a love interest who already had a small child". Western: "...but then she found a baby in a saloon bar and had to protect it through a gunfight with bandits". Science fiction: "...but then she was abducted by aliens who implanted an egg", and so on.
Hours of fun for everyone! : )
True crime: '... so she stole a baby!'
I am looking forward to seeing the rest. It is a geat story so far!
It has pictures you supplied.
Thank you very much. I have found it good to write, harder to read to her:-)
Oh my, this is GREAT!
and how wonderful of you to be doing this :)
I intend to give it to her for Christmas. Though, obviously, it will be about six years before she can hold it as it is fragile.

This is seven colours of fabulous! :)
Pearl is very lucky. :)
Thank you. I had a burst of creativity and rushed through as fast as I could.

Emma - this is truly beautiful. I can't wait to see the rest.
I am slowly getting it ready. Due to my poor internet skills, it is an arduous process:-)

Fabulous indeed :)
Thanks. I'm kind of embarrassed as the work is kind of slapdash when you see it close up.
I tend to rush through things when I am feeling creative. I definitely don't use a ruler to measure things up the way most stamper/craft types do.
I'd buy it. It looks gorgeous.
Wow, I thought it was suitable for an audience of *one*. Thank you.
Thank you. It is stamped, embossed, cut out, glued on, printed out and embellished. What fun to make.
That's lovely. And even though I know how it ends I want to see the next bit!
Yes, I can't imagine there will be a surprise ending:)

Wow, that's fantastic!
Thank you. Modest bow. The "she was very sad" was an understatement.
This is so lovely! I don't suppose you're going to pitch it to a publisher?
That thought had never occurred to me. (If you could only see the slapdash work, I was feeling so enthused that I went through as quickly as possible). I could perhaps ask Jo about publishing, as she knows the system.

Easy jokes aside, lovely work.
Thank you. In all sincerity.
That looks really lovely!

Please post the rest of this somewhere, it is just so lovely. Lucky Pearl!!
This looks really beautiful!
Thank you. As I did the last few pages I was thinking about your recycled art. Lots of the stuff I use is bought, but lots is also taken. Lolly wrappers, scraps of wrapping paper, left over ribbon, broken jewellery, etc. There are a lot of found objects in the work I do.

Not only do I love it - yes, I'd buy it - but Rafael does too. I now have it by heart - so I'm sure Pearl will before she is two years old. How wanted, how loved, how secure she will feel.
The repetition and rhythm are there to make it more accessible for her. I have already been telling it to her - when she is a little older I will read it to her. (At the moment she would just try to eat it. She is devouring literature.)
Thank you. Your praise means a lot to me.
That looks amazing. Well done!
Why thank you, oh carver of stamps. |
